King Corn

In this documentary, two guys want to learn about the experience of growing corn (and making a movie of course) so they adopt a one-acre plot of land and spend several months living in Iowa as they try to grow some of this wonderful crop on their adopted land. They learn about government subsidies, how densely they should plant the crops, how to prepare the soil... I found the process fascinating. And along the way, they talk to people and experts of assorted varieties about growing and selling corn in the good ol' USA.
Forks Over Knives

This movie shows the summary of some studies that have proven the links between diet and increases in the number of occurrences of cancer, diabetes, strokes, heart disease and so much more. One of my favorite parts of the films was seeing some of the doctors going with their patients to the store to help them shop, and then head home with them and show them how to cook those foods. Wouldn't you rather have your doc to that, rather than writing you a prescription for some more drugs??
The Slave Across The Street by Theresa Flores

I got to hear Theresa Flores speak at the Power of 1 event we had down in Cinci back in April. I heard then about this book that she’s written about her own experiences through sex trafficking, and I’ve checked it out from the library 3 times before I finally read it.
Theresa is a Caucasian woman [...]
The 4-Hour Body: How to Sleep Less

I started reading this chapter last night, and it seems like there is a lot of truth in there. Some nights I don’t dream at all, and others the time dreaming is such a short period of the total time that I’m asleep. They say in the book that scientists are stumped as to why we sleep as much as we [...]

I forget what I was searching for on Amazon.com where I came across this book - The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman, but the subtitle grabbed my attention: "An uncommon guide to rapid fat-loss, incredible sex, and becoming superhuman". WOW - that sounds like quite a book!
I've read bits and pieces of Timothy Ferris' book The 4-Hour Workweek, and I have that audiobook on my Kindle. One of these days, I'm going to finish it.
A New (and Better) Way to Do Meetings

This is a GREAT book.. and it was FREE (for me, at that time)! I’ve long been a proponent of the “movement” to end unnecessary meetings. I really dislike purely informational meetings – I can read. If you’ve asked me (or anyone else) to attend a meeting, an agenda should be provided in advance, and [...]
Call + Response

A few months back, I became a little more aware of how alarming the human trafficking problem is on our planet. Did you know that SLAVERY (for work and/or sex) still happens today, in 2011, here in America, and here in Ohio? Ohio is the 5th most trafficked State in the USA, and Toledo is the #2 [...]
The Next Survivor Series

I got this in an e-mail from my Aunt… a little while ago. So this is either very belated, or a little early depending on your point of view. Enjoy!
Six married men will be dropped on an island with one car and 3 kids each for six weeks.
Each kid will play two sports and take either music or dance [...]
A Husband’s Leadership Evaluation

Last year, I read this book… on loan from the library. I wanted to blog about the whole thing, but time got away from me and I had to return the book to the library. But there was one part of the book that I wanted to make sure I remembered and “practiced” so I made a photocopy of a few pages until [...]
To Rule Or Not To Rule

In my Bible study this morning, I came across something that I’m sure I’ve read before, and just passed right over…
The setting is in the Garden of Eden, after the fall of man. Eve was tempted by the serpent, ate from the tree, and then they are trying to hide from God to conceal their nakedness as [...]
