For weeks, Gaby and I have been feeling the need to get away for a weekend. But things kept coming up various weekends, and we almost postponed again in order to meet the president of Christians’ Haven that was in for a visit at our church. But we had postponed too many times already and had some other commitments coming up the following weekend.

We looked around for possible destinations, and I forget how we first came upon Red River Gorge. I know a lot of people who have been there and raved about it, but neither of us had ever been there before. We looked up a few possible campgrounds online, talked to a couple friends about their recommendations, and set out to stay at the Natural Bridge State Park.

We enjoyed the scenic drive through the hills of Kentucky, and found the campsites in the Natural Bridge State Park without any problem. However, they were both full. So we stopped at the lodge and asked if there were any other campgrounds near by, and we were directed to Koomer Ridge about 6 miles away. We found a GREAT site, set up camp, and then set out for some adventures the next day. We did a WHOLE LOT of hiking, enjoyed “roughing it” and cooking everything on the fire, took our giant girl Aspen along with us, and saw some of God’s beautiful creation. Here are some of the pics from our trip:

This was our first trip to the Red River Gorge and there are a wealth of other sites and trails around this beautiful area that we haven’t seen yet. So we’ll have to go back and see some more!
